Title: Hello
Post by: Ian McGhie on November 12, 2008, 02:59:54 AM
I thought I'd introduce myself my name is Ian McGhie and for my sins I've just been made president of The Model Steamer Club of Glasgow. The club was formed in the winter of 1969 to promote a mutual interest of Clyde Steamers and modelling scale ships.  Most of these steamers are modelled around the 1:48-1:50 scale and have over the years included many Clyde paddlers. The club sails  on a Saturday afternoon from about 1.30 at Rouken Glen Park in the Southside of Glasgow and weather permitting we will put out a number of the scale piers when sailing.  Currently refurbishing my GSWR Minerva.

Welcome to Paddleducks Ian - I hope you enjoy your stay...

A few photos of the models in your club would be greatly appreciated, as I'm sure there are lots that will interest our members.

Regards
Eddy

Hello Ian and welcome to the club.

I too, would be interested in seeing some pictures of the club members models. It's quite easy to post here, but should have any queries then we are willing to help you.

All the best
Ken

Hi Eddy,
This particular model is the original one in the club owned by Mr Gordon Bain, this is an old photo and shows the portable pond in use.  The where abouts of this model is unknown. There is an excellent builders model at 3/8''  scale in the Glasgow Transport Museum.

Hello Ian and a great welcome. I have a great fondness for everything Glasgow and South Western - they really knew how to design a paddler! Could I ask a favour- (not money or paddlers!!!) someone in you club has built ( long time ago) a model of the TSS ATALANTA turbine steamer, my favourite non paddler. Is there any chance of a photo or two?. I have two shipyard plans of her  and one day she will get built! Hope you and any other members of your club enjoy the site. Regards, Walter.

Ian, congratulations on your appointment.
I have let my membership lapse for a few years but would like to get sailing again, especially now that Dad's Saint Columba has now been rewired and awaiting 'sea trials'

Walter, the Atalanta was built by my Dad as you say it was a long time ago and she is showing signs of her age but i will gladly post pics ? info if you let me know what details you are looking for.

Regards

Kim

Hi Kim,

Good to hear from you, and thankfully for Walter you were able to supply a couple of photos of the Atlanta.  I look forward to seeing you and the Saint Columba at the pond.  At the club AGM we also nominated the first Saturday of each month as a Steamer day to encourage those with a passenger vessel to sail, really to give those a diary date to work to if they find it difficult to attend regularly.

Regards
Ian
