Hi,

i'm Frank from germany.
A few weeks ago i build my first steam powered engine and get weak about it :-)

my machine:

overall length nearly 10"
bore 5/8"
stroke 3/4"

now i'm looking for new ideas for next machine

i Frank, what an entrance to the forum ! Welcome to the place for steam engines and paddlers. It is funny how the forum has evolved into a place where the common interests of stem and paddler has come together in a fusion of good for both interests. Andreas, I've not come across your site before and I found it very interesting. Thank you both for sharing the engines.

Hi PD's.....& welcome Frank.........do my eyes deceive me or is that two twin cylinder units bolted together on a common crank shaft :shhh? ...& as Andy says..Heavy Metal......I am sure many of our PD members would be interested in the detail of the engine build...... :beer ..regards ...Derek

Hi,

tnx all together for that welcome :-)

i came from nienburg/weser, between Hannover an Bremen
(most people don't see it while driving through xD)

to my little machine:
cylinder, pistons, crank, valve chest and cover, all rods, croosheads and a lot more parts are made of cast iron - milled out of blocks, nothing was casted (not sure if called right)
piston rings, steam fittings and some visible parts are made of brass
cylinder bushes are gunmetal
base and stands: C45
cylinder plate and round stands, also valve rods: stainless steel

its a double twin :-) with marshal steering, works from 1atm and spend more than 400W at 8atm
lowest speed was about 300rpm

the crank was build of 17 parts - the excenter was integrated into one crank swing of every cylinder.
maybe that i find some more pictures - but not sure.
the build has passed too fast as i could made some pictures :-)
initial stage 24.08.08 - first run 10.09. same year :-)
but within this 3 weeks there were more than 300 hours work

it's me again :-)

@andy:

your diessen - the machine: a kit or self done at all ?
that's what i'ld like to build - a engine of a paddle-boat

and last but not least: steam is steam - doesn't matter if a boat, a locomobile, locomotive or whatever :-)

i've seen some nice boats in the gallery - very nice
but:
i'm only interested in the engines - see, build and let stroke them - slow as possible
(i'm not able to swim - so i don't build a boat :-)) SCNR
