While the forum is quiet, it seems like a good time to delete all the inactive accounts - Those that have registered and never visited the forum (why do they do that?) and those that haven't logged on in the last two years....
This will probably halve our userbase, but there's no point in having users listed if they never visit is there?

Hi PD's......& I agree with our Administrators comment & decision :hammer...here
As a PD member I take full credit :nahnah for inviting one 'Sir' Sandy Cambell of ACS to join our ranks & such contributions together with the likes our Bogstandard 'Esquire' :respect have provided invaluable detail for the passion for model steam....
So crop the numbers ..but not the contributers....... :beer - regards Derek

Okay, over 250 users deleted..... I'll continue to remove inactive accounts once a month....
Last time I did this, I went to the trouble of emailing each account holder to warn them that their accounts would be removed - Of 326 members I emailed, only 2 actually bothered to reply or log on again! So before anyone asks, NO I won't be wasting my time giving warnings before removal.
And don't worry, anyone who has logged onto the forum in the last 2 years will not be removed, even if they haven't posted anything.

Hello all, it is quite ironic as I was just having the same thoughts recently but had wondered about the point of postting a warning e-mail to those afflicted with lack of interest in this wonderful hobby. Those who do visit, if albeit irregularly, can still gain a lot from here even if their interest level is low. So those who do please visit consider a little contribution of whatever your thoughts are.
cheers

Hey Derek, cheeky devil :ranting
I usually have a look around first thing EVERY morning, and during the day as well. :nahnah
I did have an email the other day from a young lad who wanted to know a few things about paddlers and steam, so he was duly sent here, registered, and got very upset by the new wording about downloads.
He read
until they have made a useful contribution
then duly came away, because he knew nothing about paddlers or steam, and was very upset :sobbing that he wouldn't be able to contribute anything until he learned all about it. Maybe a slight change of wording would be in order.

A fair comment John..... I've altered the text in the Downloads area, so hopefully it now comes across a little more friendly.
The fact of the matter is that these changes HAVE stopped almost all of the troffing by automated scripts, or by users who are only here to take everything and give back nothing. It has also resulted in a general increase in active users - So I'm loathed to remove the restriction.
Any new member only has to ask in a polite way to have the restriction removed - Either myself or Jim (red_hamish) can give access to those that are genuinely interested in paddlers or steam models. Though we would obviously prefer them to post a few messages rather than sitting back and taking no part in proceedings.

Hi PD's......our Bogstandard Esquire says.........
I usually have a look around first thing EVERY morning, and during the day as well
Must be a generational thing John :shoot as I too log in morning & night :breakcomp...& apart from reading the posts I look for the PD members who have visited that day
:shhh PD's.....but from memory :picknose :oops..I think there has only been two days where Bogstandard has not logged on..........but I think that was the time when he & his family were trying to find an owner for that new orphaned puppy dog ...or was it when he got lost after taking his grandchild to school & forgot the way back home...................................[did they {the others} forget how to walk?] :hehe
