Hello,
also in Central Europe sternwheelers were used, in this link I found the interesting sternwheel vessel "Elsa" on river Fulda in Central Germany.
Elsa was steam driven from launching in the 1890 s to 1962, when the steam engine was replaced by a diesel.
The boat was in use until about 1972, later it was scrapped.
Boiler and engine were in the rear of the vessel, the paddlewheel was chain driven.
Even when the text is in German, the photos of "Elsa" are interesting.

Hi Thomas,
Re, "Even when the text is in German" , If you look at google they have a translate function which you can use either as a stand alone or incorporate into a tool bar.
