Just joined and figured I'd start it out with an introduction.
I'm a tug captain. Been running boats for 40 years as of May. Been running tugs for about 30 years. Have run tugs from 26' to 130', 250 hp. to 6200 hp. Most have been modelbow, offshore tugs.
A pic of the "Kristen Lee" which I'm captain of right now.

She's 86' with 1400 hp. She has 2000' of 1 1/2" wire on a hydraulic tow winch. We work the East and Gulf coasts from Maine to Texas, mostly moving dredge equipment for Great Lakes Dock and Dredge. I've been running this boat for about 5 years now. It's based out of Green Cove Springs, Fla. which is about 30 miles up the St. Johns River from Jacksonville.
I'm mostly a live steam, 7 1/2" gauge train nut. I "try" to build live steam engine models. The one's I've built, so far, are mostly mill engines. they run, but they sure ain't purty!! lol
Anyway, If I can answer any questions about offshore tugs, feel free to ask. I may be awhile getting back to you some times. I'm out of internet and cel range a good part of the time. They don't work real well 50 miles from shore, and a sat. connection if WAY too expensive at $2.60 a minute. lol
I've really enjoyed the site so far.
