Title: Introduction
Post by: BVDL75 on August 01, 2007, 11:06:38 PM
Greetings,
I'm Ben, I am from Melbourne Australia and its a bit of a story how I ended up here.

May main interest has always been steam, have to many projects on the go at once but I am sure many of you do.

I wanted to build a live steam locomotive but thought as a first live steam project this is a bit much to take on.  So to begin with I thought a stationary engine. But this is not very interesting so then I thought a stationary engine in a paddle steamer.

I have a small horizontal boiler takes about 1.8LA has 18 fire tubes and makes plenty of steam.  It would easily power a couple of 1 to 1 1/2 cylinders so about 6 years ago I started collecting photos and drawings of the PS Adelaide.

I then begin drafting drawings to build her from. (I am an engineer and was using solidworks daily at work) Don't recall what scale I was using but the finished product was going to be about 2m long.

Well needless to day drawings never go finished. Lost the data and I only have some full size sketchs I made at the time left.

The Idea of actually finishing this project crops up from time to time and I collect information or items that may be of use and they go in the PS box.

I then stubbled across your wonderful site and was all motivated again.

My father is also interested in steam and has recently purchased himself a lathe for home, this is a secondary reason motivation is up as he and I can make the engine.  I was getting this done on the machines at work 6 years ago but I changed jobs and new job doesn't have the machinery to do so just simply a design studio, hence another reason things ground to a halt.

Not thats a bit long winded but hopefully you made it.
Regards
Ben
