Title: P.S. Neuchatel
Post by: Bill Worden on February 23, 2007, 02:12:50 PM
The news was released today that the non-profit group "Trivapor" seeking to restore the Swiss paddler Neuchatel of 1912 have finally entered into a binding purchase agreement for the vessel.

The steam engine from the dieselized German paddle steamer Ludwig Fessler was purchased by the group some time ago, but the vessel owner's demand for an impossibly high price for the steamer left the non-profit in the position of having an engine but no ship.

That has now been resolved, and although there is the need to raise lots of money, it now appears that Neuchatel will join the ranks of Switzerland's active paddle steamers. Given the amount of work to be done on a vessel that has not been drydocked since withdrawal in 1969, it's fair to assume that several years will pass before the steamer re-enters service.
