Hey everyone,
Just noticed the video section of Paddle Ducks...yes I guess it's been there for awhile but it's not often I check the sidebar as when I log in it often disappears.

Anyway random observations aside I have a few elements of video footage I would be interested in putting on the site but in regards to size I'm wondering if it is better to add only say one of them.

What I have is:
The video footage I made for my Paddle Steamer speech for the children at the Primary school. It's a basic 'This Is A Paddle Steamer' video with pictures rather than footage but it shows up some of my photos, a few snippets of moving image and my wonderful 'Grade One Teacher' voice.

Then I have some raw footage, unedited and still on tape from a recent trip to Echuca. It shows engineering on the Alexander Arbuthnot, elements of the engine, footage of the wharf and boats along side it, footage on top of the wharf and footage of the Canberra steaming around some bends and sounding a whistle. To post this one I will need to edit it in a postable state, video has no commentary so far, but I can add it.

Then I have a few video files filmed on a few digital cameras before I purchased my video camera. They feature paddle steamers in Mildura (PS Melbourne) as well as lots of clips from Echuca featuring various boats, lots from a heritage festival weekend.
I can put these clips together into one long clip or send them all individually.

It all really depends on what people are interested in seeing.

The other thing I could do is create specific video and photographic slideshows of specific vessels, for instance if someone is interested in a specific boat eg. Alexander Arbuthnot, I should be able to quickly rig up a set of footage to be specifically just about the boat. This will enable me to show off some of the photos in my collection as well.

So tell me what you're interested in seeing and that way I can set about making up some films to send to Eddy so they can be posted on the site. Of course quality will not be DVD quality as that would clog Eddy up way too much but I should still be able to create some pretty good looking movies.

Tell me what you think

Sean

The size of the videos isn't a real issue as far as I'm concerned, apart from two things - First remember that a lot of people still have modem connections or slow speed broadband, and secondly, you have to send them to me so I can post them....

I'm perfectly happy to have smaller videos (under 20Mb) sent via email, but much larger than that and it would probably be more economic to send them on a CD using snail mail...

Ok well I'll get the video off my video camera and see what I can do from there. I usually am able to keep video below 20MB as I usually create the movies especially for internet. I've made amateur films with my friends which we have posted on the internet before.

I'll see what I can do in what time I have before I get back to school.

Added another video from Bob Golder - This shows Walter Snowdons paddle launch Mellissa - Unfortunately he was having a few problems getting it to run properly, though he did manage it about half an hour after this video was taken...

I've only just got a broadband connection and started using 'youtube' (waiting 40 minutes to see a 2 minute video was a bit much....) and have uploaded one of waverley just to see how it works. see it here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujIGcGmvSDc - no sound though, I have a camera with limited video capability, not an actual video camera  :?

A new video has been uploaded from Peter Webster - This one shows the second on the water trial of PS Phantom, as well as PS Pevensey and PS Glasgow.

Some lovely models and a great video that is well worth the download - Many thanks for sharing them with us Peter!

Just uploaded to youtube, video of waverleys engine while calling at southend pier. This time filmed on a nokia 6300 cellphone so picture quality is nothing to write home about but at least it's more than 40 seconds (which is the maximum with my camera) and you get to hear the bells ringing!
