Title: Posting question for Eddy
Post by: Bill Hudson on November 15, 2006, 06:22:22 AM
Many years ago I acquired  a two volum set of Appleton's Applied Mechanics. They belonged to a stern  wheeler engineer, according to an inscription on the inside of the cover. They are falling apart. Was going to have them restored but theprice went well beyond the monitary vlue of the books.   They are well over a hundered  years old. If I remember correctly there is a section  on feathering paddle wheels, design and construction. All the drawings are block  cut. We moved a cople years ago and the books are persently in storage.  Am  thinking of copying the chapters on steam engines and paddle wheels along with the text.

Is that something that would be  valuable on Paddleducks?   If so where and   in what format?   I have a mac but can scan and  save in PDF.

Title: Ols Text Books - for viewing on Paddleducks

Bill

It seems that scanning the pages into a PDF file would be an good idea, for although I'm using a PC, I have created documents in PDF format.

For example, there are some documents which Eddy Matthews (our good Webmaster) had placed in the Downloads area which are in JPG format. To make them easier for reading as they consisted of so many pages I downloaded the JPG files and then created by combining them into a single PDF file (with bookmarks), and then sent the resulting file back to Eddy who put the PDF files back in the same directory/folder as the original JPG files.

So when you have scanned the pages into a PDF format send them to Eddy by e-mail (external to Paddleducks), he can then place them with the other reference materials in the Downloads area.

Hope these comments are helpful, (and that Eddy is happy with this suggestion).
