Title: PS Waverley 60 Years anniversary

in october (14th./15th.) will be some 60 Years anniversary sailings with the PS Waverley is one of you there? i'm going to be abord on saturday and sunday it would be nice to meet some of you on this occasion. Please let me know if you are there.

I am expecting to do the Saturday trip.
The Clyde River Steamer Club is offering a special trip from Greenock to Blairmore on MV KENILWORTH, and then from Blairmore up to Arrochar and back to Greenock on WAVERLEY.

On the Saturday she sails from Glasgow at 1000, Greenock at 1140, Helensburgh at 1200 for Kilcreggan, Blairmore and a cruise up her original route to off Arrochar.
On the Sunday, she leaves Glasgow at 1000, Greenock at 1140Â and Helensburgh at 1200 for Dunoon, Rothesay and Tighnabruiach

There may be a possibility I could make it - Unfortunately I cannot gaurantee it at the moment as I have a few family problems that may stop it.

My Dad has just got out of hospital after a heart attack and needs to revisit often to get his drug levels checked, then there's my wife and my handicapped daughter who are both going through a bad patch with their epilepsy right now - Fun and games eh? :)

However, with Bob's kind offer of the Ayrshire facilities (His large static caravan), it may be possible - Lets hope so...

I've just met with our redoubtable moderators Eddy :? and Walter 8) and agreed to sail on Waverley on Sunday 15th October from Greenock to Tighnabruaich and back :D . We suggest a meet of PDs outside the souvenir shop on board shortly after she leaves Greenock to arrange a time and place for a friendly chat during the cruise over a cuppa, or other suitable beverage :roll:.

Cruising not just to Arrochar but to Lochgoilhead at the head of Loch Goil as well.

Its not only a very unusual sailing for WAVERLEY these days, but also the route for which she was built. My last cruise on that route was in 1972 which was the last year the sailing was offered on a regular basis.

Also has a personal aspect - from 1959 all family holidays were spent near Lochgoilhead and a highlight of these was watching WAVERLEY (or JEANIE DEANS) passing Douglas Pier on her 4 times a week visits. On a clear day we could hear her paddle beats from some way off and would go out in our rowing boat to enjoy being tossed around by her wake. On really good days we would go to Lochgoilhead by steamer, while Father took the car. So I can't wait!

When I was on WAVERLEY this summer, this cruise was advertised - with the suggestion that advance booking was essential as it is expected to be fully booked.

May see some PD's on board, then.

What a pity Arrochar is no longer available for a round trip via Loch Long and Loch Lomond as it would have made a good joint run when Maid Of The Loch is back in steam :( . As a teenager that used to be one of my favourites, making good use of a 'runabout' ticket in the school holidays.

I must confess, although I support Waverley now, my best memories are of Jeanie Deans, even when the Clyde started to pour in through the paddle inspection hatches.

That was another route to Lochgoilhead for those with plenty of time - train to Balloch, MAID OF THE LOCH to Tarbet, walk to Arrochar & Tarbet station and then the MacBraynes' bus. Not the fastest way of getting there, but great fun.

Your memories must go back a bit further than mine - although I must have sailed on her more than once, my only definite recollection of JEANIE DEANS is an afternoon sail from Dunoon to Tighnabruaich in continuous pouring rain - with an elderly aunt who insisted she wanted to remain on deck and stay dry at the same time. She was an absolute beauty, though.

I drove past Arrochar pier last month - it looks too far gone to restore and I can't ever see the Three Lochs tour being revived.

Once again - anyone planning on doing the Arrochar cruise - book in advance!
