Title: SS Manx Mann
Post by: lenknight on March 29, 2005, 09:09:29 PM
It is reported in Old Glory magazine that the SS Manx Mann has has been turned down by the HLF for funding. I am sure all will share many people’s disappointment at this news, not least the people of the Manx Mann group. I think it would be most interesting to people in the historic ship preservation world to look at the reasons given by the HLF, so that future bids could be tailored accordingly. Interesting also the HLF web-site, to be found on the links section of the Manx Mann group, that they give details of support they have given to maritime preservation.
There are details of proposed support for an historic house to the tune of some 20 million and a painting. The house in question also received some 17 million to purchase it, from the National Memorial Fund. Which I was led to believe was to help projects in memory of those who fell in defence of our country, what that has to do with the original purpose, I am somewhat puzzled about. But I may have misunderstood this; any clarification about this fund would be most welcome. I do hope the Manx group will not be dis-heartened and will keep trying to find the support they need.
