Title: Well it's nearly a paddleduck.....
Post by: periscope on May 03, 2006, 07:55:48 AM
Hi everyone - thanks for letting me onto the forum.  I know a few of you of course from the old New Brighton Forum.  I finally finished my Seawolf submarine and I'm really enjoying it apart from all the weed in our club pond.  My next venture is not quite a paddleduck - I thought I'd start with just a Duck - got one from the garden centre last weekend.  If anyone has done a duck I'd be grateful for any tips - just thought it would be amusing to drift along on the club pond. Wonder if I could turn it into a sub .... now there's a thought.  Anyway here's a picture of my sub and the new duck.

Great to see you've joined us at long last Ian! :-)

I hope the duck is going to be powered by paddlewheels as our logo is - Paint it bright yellow, add some Graupner paddlewheels and get the photos posted on here!

The photo of your sub with all the weed on it reminds me of the TV series "Voyage to the bottom of the sea" - Now I'm really starting to show my age! :-(

Thanks Eddy - Nice to hear from you again - I reckon it will be a while before I get started on the duck 'cos I haven't yet figured out the best way to do it - one of our club members at Goole owns a model shop so I'll be able to pick his brains no doubt when I see him again.
Keep taking the tablets

Title: Ducks of Another Feather

Hi Perscope:

Apparently duck / goose hunters are using commercially made R/C decoys and here's a site selling kits. As you have your decoy and no need for a kit, the photos and downloadable instructions may give you some ideas as to how you can outfit it.

http://www.vac-u-boat.com/Vacuduck.htm

At one of our recent regattas,an R/C duck was entered , causing quite a few to ponder the proper class. It came in second in the navigation course. Also, an article I saw some time ago showed a decoy with the neck cut , on a pivot and connected to the rudder servo so the head turned to "look" in the direction it was turning. Good luck with your project !

Best regards, Swordfish
