Title: Radar drive motor
Post by: Eddy Matthews on April 29, 2006, 03:36:11 AM
Does anyone know of a really small motor suitable for a radar drive?

Ideally I'd like something no longer than 1/2" - But is there something that small available?

Try the motor from a used hard drive they are 12  volt and some have gears that you can adapt.

As uusual, I put my hands in gear before my brain.  I meant to say CD disc drive . The motor that drives the tray is quite small and  at six volts, it is almost perfect speed.

Try shopping around here,,,

Maybe you could find some ultra small gears to gear down this motor

Thanks guys - That gives me a few places worth trying, I wish I'd thought about a CD drive motor myself as I threw out two old CD Roms about 3 weeks ago!

I don't think I'll strip down my computer to rob one from it :-)

I know the query was some time ago but ......
Why not try my modification to an SD200 Mini Servo .
Not difficult and works a treat.

I have attached the PDF, but if you want to, look at www.edinburghmodelboatclub.org under the Help Pages

Laptop CD/DVD drive, system tray release function, is very often handled by a motor of a size similar to those used at the popular toy helicopter tail rotor. Much smaller than the one moving the tray on a desktop unit - I haven't seen a failing motor after recovering more than 10 units.

hi , i  know this is a realy old topic but nevertheless here"s my idea of a good way of finding motors that small
the motor that is used for the vibrating function in a cell phone are just what you need
best (altough late  ) greetings from bombus
