Is a replica paddler in right place here, if so - Eric Nordevall II
Type: Fiolfartyg = "violin craft" partly hull embedded paddle wheels, the hull shape looks like a violin.
Number of ribs: 58
LOA: 28,6 meter
Displacement: 150 ton
Max width: 6.5 meter
Hull width at wheels: 4.3 meter
Draught: 1.9 meter
Machinery: Two steam (balance ??) each 17 hp
Cruising speed: 7 knot
Accommodation: 8 cabins, 2 saloons
Passengers: ca. 80
Relaunch scheduled 2007.
Eric Nordevall II
The first paddle steamer Eric Nordevall was build in 1836 at Hammarstens shipyard in Norrköping ( Sweden) supplied with locally produced engines (UK technique) from Motala Verkstad.
She serviced the canal tour Stockholm-Göteborg, until an afternoon early in the summer of 1856 after leaving Vadstena (still a beautiful town at Vättern ) when the helmsman took the wrong side of the island "Jungfrun". The Nordevall was hard grounded a few hundred meters north of the island, when an assisting steamship two days later drew it afloat it was evident in a few minutes the ship would sink, it was anbandoned, lines cut, down she went 45 meters to the button left alone until discovered by amateur divers in 1980's.
The wreck is exstremly well preserved, and the considerations on raising it ended up in building a complete replica as an educational project and due to common historical interest, as Eric Nordevall and the four sister ships were the first generation paddlers with none preserved.
The replica will be as the original apart from details demanded for passenger cruising today.

The original was what is known as a "fiddle-steamer" or violin steamer because of the shape of the hull, the paddles were sited inboard rather than in sponsons to fit the locks of the Göta Canal
