Title: Bandsaw

Hello all, well I've gone and done it. An order has been palced for a new bandsaw for my workshop (shed) a tool that I've up until now considered to be a bit of an extravagance will soon be gracing the (cluttered) floor space. The one which I have gone for is a Scheppach Basato 1. This is ideally suited for modelling, it has a 4" capacity with an 8" throat depth and will accept 1/8" up to 5/8" blades. I can barely wait for it to arrive. I'll try to post a pic or two once it is in situ.

Thanks Jim, It's always good to know more about useful workshop equipment. I was going to say it's good to know about other peoples "tools" but I'm not sure you can say that on a public forum! :-)

They are wonderful invention and you will wonder how you could possibly have ever got along without it.

Sometime ago I bought one from Machine Mart, model CBS12WV for Pds 105.69 and it really is not very good. The main problem is that the blade guides are each a single roller with a slot in it. The blade has a mind of its own and easily wanders off the straight and narrow. Yours looks a very much better job with proper three roller blade guides.
One other thing. The insert that fits into the table around the blade usually has quite a wide slot to allow the table to tilt. I found that when you are trimming off a small bit it drops down inside between the blade and the wheel, breaking the blade. I made a new plywood insert that fits really closely to the blade and nothing now drops into the works.

Hello David,

thanks for your link to the toolshop it is one that I had not come across before. I am pleased to say that I did slightly better than the web advertised price (admittedly only because of their carriage charge) and purchase price was £ 169.20 inc vat. The web price of £ 159.00 did not include a hefty carrige charge of £ 19.95. I also know the outlet I used will also deliver this free of charge within the UK.

This is where I come clean and say the outlet I use is the company where I work ( This'll definitely be pulled for self-advertising  :oops: ) and am the tool buyer  :lol:

Jim, you know from our chat on MSN tonight that I like looking at other peoples tools! I think we'll leave it at that before we get into trouble! :-)
