I checked the Web Links to see if there is anything about muscle-powered paddle boats. Maybe I didn't look in the right places to find "Horse Ferry" at: http://ina.tamu.edu/LChorseferry.htm . This web site was prepared by Dr.Kevin Crisman, a professor of nautical archaeology at Texas A&M University, who might be obscure enough to insure that nobody other than the folks who research ship wrecks have found his web sites.
Best wishes,

I could see a static model, but a running version would be dreadfully boring.

I placed a photo of a treadmill horse ferry under RESEARCH forum in the Paddle wheel ferrys topic. I recently came across a drawing of a horse ferry that has a turn table that the horse walks on instead of a treadmill. If I can find it again, I'll post it.
A fellow club member Glenn Hensley built a r/c horse ferry and the horses legs moved on the tredmill. He's the same guy who did the Bertram article.
