Hello everyone,
My name is Frank McNeill. I am an old retired person in Houston, Texas, USA with an interest in bamboo and as yet, unfilled goal to develop new uses for nature's "miracle plant" that might provide rural handicraft workers in some Asian, African, or Latin American country with more income than they are likely to obtain by converting bamboo to mats, baskets, matchsticks or charcoal. I have never worked with bamboo, so my suggestions for new uses are based on things that others have done.
A company in Australia uses bamboo as an alternative to fiberglass for covering cores carved from blocks of polystyrene foam. I believe a similar method could be used to produce semi-scale models of wooden boats and ships by using strips of bamboo as "planks" for hulls, decks and above decks structures. Anyone who might be interested in this is invited to the bamboo category of the Deeshaa Network where I am one of several non-Indian members. Go to: http://tinyurl.com/cffh9 for the first of several pages with NEXT PAGE and PREVIOUS PAGE links for navigation. There are WORDS with all upper-case letters that act as links to other web sites. I am not trying to sell anything to anyone, but would be delighted to receive replies from anyone who might be interested in designing boats, molds and fixtures and marketing small boat and ship models in countries where people can afford to buy generic models and toys of this kind.
Best wishes,
Frank McNeill
