I have to admit that I couldn't remember what the heck the Barry looked like, so I had to go and do a quick search to jog my fading brain cells.... Still not as nice as the Glen Sannox IMHO ;)

To give the company credit they certainly knew how to build a good looking ship . . the Gwalia and sister must have looked stunning too.

Post by: AlistairD on November 02, 2008, 12:14:00 AM: Barry was renamed Waverley in 1926 after the previous Waverley of 1885 had not been reconditioned after her service in World War One and scrapped in 1919.
She herself served as a minesweeper in the Second World War and was bombed and sunk off the North East Coast on 3 July 1941.
These were operated on the Bristol Channel, mainly, by P & A Campbell.
The present Waverley was built in 1947 for the London and North Eastern Railway for service on the Clydem, to replace the Waverley of 1899 which was sunk at Dunkirk

i agree the Barry is one of the nicest looking paddlers, i think there is something about her hull shape...the sheer forward & the flare of the bow, that makes her stand out. in her original livery she looks great.

I have plans for the Gwalia/Devonia, both of which I personally prefer in their later Campbells colours, in which state I think them to be amongst the best looking paddlers ever! Both these two ships as well as Barry were all built by John Browns, I got the plans for Gwalia/Devonia from Glasgow University Archives and as by the same builder I imagine they will have Barry there as well, one day I intend to ask but funding needed elsewhere for now!
