Title: Website changes!
Post by: Eddy Matthews on June 30, 2005, 07:32:42 PM
I decided we badly needed the website re-doing to make it look more integrated, rather than one page for the menu, another for the forum, another for the photo gallery etc etc.

So after spending a few hours sorting things out, I think I have it all fixed so that everything now displays on ONE page with the main menu on the left.

If you are accessing the forum directly, try accessing it using the http://www.paddleducks.co.uk URL and you should then see everything displayed as I've outlined - I think it's much easier to navigate and more attractive (but hey I'm biased!). Take a look and let me know your thoughts.... If you find any problems please yell and I'll do my best to correct them ASAP.

Yes, Eddy.  I like it.  Will speak to Janice about the logo background but she is in the backwoods of Kentucky visiting at the moment.  If I can't get her, I'll make the logo background changes myself.

Try clearing your browsers cache of temporary files Gerald - it's probably picking up the old files and using them rather than reading the updated files.

Please let me know if that cures the problem - It should.....

I think it's brilliant Eddy, a nice website that the paddleducks crew should be proud of! I still think rotating wheels somewhere though... (check out the port of echuca homepage to see what I mean!)

Okay Gerald - Let me make sure I've got this correct.... If you goto www.paddleducks.co.uk the menu displays correctly, but when you click on "Forum" it comes up full screen and the menu and top header with the logo vanish, correct?

What operating system and browser are you using?

If you email me one evening when you have a bit of time to spare, we can go through various bits and pieces to find the problem - It will be much easier and quicker if we're both around, then we can check settings and see what going wrong - I'm around most evenings between 17:00 GMT and 20:00 GMT.

Please bear with me and we'll get it sorted....

Thanks Bob, hopefully I can sort out Geralds problem fairly soon - He seems to be the only one with a minor hiccup since I changed things, though there's nothing strange in the code I wrote, so it should work with all operating systems and browsers....

Hi Eddy,
I am running windows XP home with rogersyahoo browser on a Dell 2400 computer. when I tried it this evening, after I logged in I got the forum page with no menu bar, so I thought I am going to have to chat with you to straighten this out, but I wanted to look at some of the photos in the Photo Gallery, so I used the back space on my browser to get back to the screen with the menu clicked on the photo gallery and it showed the gallery with the menu bar. I then clicked on the forum and got the forum with the menu bar :D , I then lodgged out went to another site and then back here logged in again no menu bar, but by back spacing I get the menu bar  this I can live with :) thanks
Regards,
Gerald

Gerald - you could try go to Start/Run, then type  %temp%  this will then bring up all of the temporary resident files on your PC which are unnecessary and can be deleted

However before you accepted this I would like to hear from any PD with a reasonable PC level of knowledge as my level is LOWISH :?: - - and so if I am incorrect you may need to do the following -  :crash  - Derek

PS - I have checked the word LOWISH and found it to be an OLDE Irish term to "term" a low level of potato/grain/water/mash in an alchol still as opposite or opposed to HIGHISH level of afford said :news

Hi Gerald,

I'm glad you appear to be getting somewhere with the problem. I don't know the browser your using, so I can't give any advice on that one, but it does look more and more as if it's an old file that is loading on your machine when you go to the forum.

Derek's advice about going to Run/Start and typing %Temp% is a good one too - I don't think I'd try hitting the machine with a hammer though! :-)

One option you could try is to reboot your machine, then BEFORE you open anything, use Dereks suggestion to check the temporary files - You can then delete them knowing that nothing is being stored in memory, or on your HD. Try running your browser again after doing this and see what happens.

Hi Eddy,
When I cleared the temp files I had done it with both the control panel and by running %temp%. I am able to get the menu by useing the back arrow on my browser so its only three extra mouse cliks :D thanks all for the help.
Regards,
Gerald

Okay Gerald, as long as your happy with that then fine....

Just one last suggestion - In Internet Explorer you can force it to ignore the temporary files or files in the cache by holding down the Control key and hitting F5 - I don't know if that will work with your browser, but for the couple of seconds it takes it has to be worth a try?

I could add a login option to the menu Gerald, but it would be a bit of a kludge, so I'd rather not do it.

After all, you only have to click on "Forum" and then select the login option at the top of the page, so it would only save one mouse click - I'm not sure it's really worth the effort! ;-) Anyone else feel it's a needed option?
