Title: Low Voltage Gel Cells
Post by: derekwarner_decoy on February 19, 2005, 01:29:12 PM
Hi Pd's & here is a ? for ToeBoatJoe - I read some time ago in your webpage, that modern style eg., 12 volt Gel Cells do not suffer from memory affect, however if left un charged for a period of time are rendered useless - this comment was proved to me this morning when I attempted to recharge a 12V - 3 Amp gel cel with the nominated electronic regulating charger - result was no red light which indicates charging

The battery is 16 months old & never used - residual voltage is 0.53V Dc constant - is there any point of  running a 1.0 V globe to spring it into life?

Lead acid (gel cells) retain their charge for long periods of
time without self-discharging. After using a gel cell, be sure to
recharge it immediately; if left discharged, the components inside
will sulfate and self-destruct leaving you with a useless battery
after a couple of days.
