'The Western Rivers Steamboat Cyclopoedium' by Alan L. Bates tells
us that steamboat packet anchors were not often used, therefore were
rarely seen attached to any rope or chain, that they were just kept
lying around in the work area in case anybody ever needed one. All
well and good, but there is not a picture of a packet anchor in his
book, nor can I find one in any other of my books which mostly
contain old photographs. In the project I am doing I need to know
what an anchor for a 210' Mississippi River sternwheeler packet,
circa 1880, would look like and of what materials such an anchor
might've been made. Can anyone help with a link or something? By the
way, I'm on a very low budget and don't want to buy any more books
for awhile.
