Rceently, there have been a number of messages concerning the
conversion of Great Lakes paddle steamers to WWII training aircraft
carriers. The Dossin Great Lakes Museum in Detroit has a model of
the Greater Detroit, sister to the Greater Buffalo which was one of
those conversions (U.S.S. Sable). I thought many of you would be
interested in this model, for several reasons:

It will illustrate the biggest pure paddlers ever built (535 feet
long, 100 feet wide, 12,000 horsepower).

It will let those interested know what the beginning point was for
the aircraft carrier conversions.

And, depeneding on attitude, it will either inspire all our model
builders, or cast them into despair!
