thanks Guys - I checked out the www.mackproductsrc.com web site & have a few questions

1) Tony - the 7090-ST [nor the other 985-ST & 418 ST units] didn't appear to have a big fluid volume - is it header fed?
2) does the documentation suggest any fluid consumption per time unit based upon the nominated 12 Vdc?
3) each of the three units talk about different features like 7090 provides smoke proportional to engine speed etc

any comments greatly appreciated - I would not like it too much if my ACTion kit proportional motor controller stuffed
up the smoke generators signal etc - regards Derek

Hi Derek,

I'm afraid that I'm not going to be much use to you re consumption.

The units are header fed and appear to have a reservoir that's big
enough to take around 20ml

there was no documentation with the unit - I rang MACK in the USA to
check the hook ups and they were very helpful on the electrical side -
I'm sorry I didn't think to ask about consumption but judging by the
output, it's a pretty hungry unit

the unit I have is seen in the photo running off of an ACTionKit
Condor 10Amp ESC and I had no issues with compatability. The fan runs
at two speeds, low speed is supposed to give off a steady trickle of
smoke when speed is at neutral, whereas high speed is supposed to
simulate the increased smoke output when the boilers are stoked up,
steam raised and the vessel in motion. From what I've seen so
far "smoke proportional to engine speed" might be simplified to LOTS
and MORE!

I'm using a motor mixer that has outlets for three motors, the two
external motors are proportionately controlled relative to rudder so
that on half ahead and full rudder one motor (and connected paddle)
reverses while the other continues ahead. If I connected my smoker to
either one of these motors then its activity would be affected by the
motor mixer occasionally sending a signal to that motor to stop or
reverse (smoke wld stop as well).

The third motor outlet is for the central motor in a three shaft
boat. The speed of that motor changes only in proportion to the
throttle, not relative to rudder position and so this is the outlet
that I've hooked my smoker's ESC to. I think that this should isolate
the unit from the mixer's effect.

Like most modellers I know, I've about a dozen projects swimming
around my head at any time, so we'll talk further shortly no doubt.
