Title: Waverley smoke stacks
Post by: Leighton on June 19, 2005, 08:14:08 AM
Hi PD's,
Saw two sets of plans yesterday of the Waverley. The first showed
the stacks on the same rake while on the second set of plans one of
the smoke stacks was on a different rake to the other. Is there a
reason for this?

Hi Leighton, the reason one of Waverleys stacks is crooked is that on
one of her refits, the deck below the offending funnel was rebuilt
weaker than the original and it subsided slightly, hence the
difference in rake. Hopefully, the refit she is undergoing at present
will rectify this fault! Your plans must be of pre and post midlife
refit. Cheers, Walter.

I can just imagine a 'cost accountant' saying,
"look those 2"x 5" beams are too expensive! - use 1"x2" instead" !

Must be the same firm watching costs on Team NZL -- sorry Leighton :-)

cheers,
Brett

The different rakes lon the funnels, never smoke stacks in the UK, lasted
from about the sixties until the 2000 rebuild. If
the other is more recent you rill see an emergency exit from the dining room
in the middle of the aft promenade deck which was not there before
