Leighton,
The George M. Verity was 130.1' x 35.1' x 5.1' and her wheel was 22'
wide and 19.5' diameter. Thought that might help you out a little on
your design. The 5.1' is hull draft not waterline draft. I believe
her waterline draft was about 3'

Joe,
The MSA (Marine Safety Authority) state in their little rule book
that for inland waterways there must be a 750mm clearance between
water line and deck (at the lowest point) with a further 150mm bulk
head at the door ways.
Would the hull draft be taken from the lowerest point of the gunnel
to the bottom of the keel?

Morning Leighton - the way I read this is
from water line to deck = 750 mm or approx 30"
from the deck to bottom of bulkhead doorways = 150 mm or approx 6"
and yes, the draft must be calculated from the the water line to the lowest
point of the hull but only in a vertical plane,
so if you planned some 18" draft the minimium moulded depth of hull would be
18" + 30" = 48" or 1220 mm which for the SofW would be near amidships

Yes that is what I calculated as well and we will need about 200
tonne to push her down into the water to that depth (18")
The next question is how heavy are two package boilers to run the
steam engines? Plus the axillary equipment.
