Title: Jib before the mast

Hi all Pd's - the following are examples of Australian paddlers have the jib or boom facing fwd
of the mast, but appear not to have a fwd hold or access area, nor even suitable deck storage
area

eg., Wilcannia, Success, Renmark, Corowa & Industry

Now all of the masts have fixed stay ropes or wires, and I cannot see our older crew members
removing the stay ropes or wires to swing the job aft

So would the original jib facing fwd be used to lift & stow cargo from shoreside, over the vessel
then over to tied along side barges?? - regards Derek

Forward facing jib.
Just an idea, but I was wondering if they had gangways hanging over the bows
that they needed to raise and lower?

thanks David - they all appear to be load lifting or holding of say 1/4 > 1/2 ton
capacity depending on the number of turns on the drum etc - Derek

The jib or boom as it is known was used for lifting 'snags' or obstructions
such as old trees washed down in the flood season. I have this on first hand
experience of an ond ausi riverman. Waverley Mike. England.
