Princess Elizabeth Minesweeper - Powertrain Installation 2
(1/1)
ihughes:
Have now upload some pictures of the motor & gearbox installation in the Princess Elizabeth hull.
Just a reminder, I'm using:
- Squires motors & gearbox
- Squires nylon drive cogs
- 2 x 1100mah battery packs
- 2 x Mtroniks ESC's
- Mixer circuit supplied by Barry Blyth.
Have now installed the batteries either side of keel in stern compartment, motors and gearboxes in 'paddle box' compartment and ESC/Mixer and Receiver in forward compartment. Have added extra lead ballast to stern and forward compartments.
Electrics all working okay although I did have problems with one of the ESC's which I have replaced.
Have tested in Bath only to discover yet another leak in bow compartment !!!!
One thing I'd recommend is that you reinforce all the bottom hull seams with Richard Webb's recommended 'mixture'. Also, in hindsight I think I recommend double skinning the hull bottom in the 'paddle box' (mid) compartment as the floor is quite flexible and could lead to some problems with consistent drive alignment when motors are operating at full power.
Hoping to get it onto some safe water for real testing in the next week or two.

Hi Ian,
That looks pretty neat. I think I will give it a try, but will wait for your tests
Do you really mean 15 rpm - if so are you gearing up for the final drive?
I put a layer of ply in the bottom of the motor compartment to fix things to and to stiffen it.
