It's Coming, Folks! 1/18 Scale Major Kit

Talk about a slow boat from China! After considerable delay, the pending 1/18 scale Major kit is finally close to completion.   

It is currently in the prototype stage but should be on the water in a few weeks for testing. I don't yet know the planned release date or even  an approximate cost but given his other work, it will be a decent value, especially to those interested in paddlers.

At 1/18 scale, it will have a nice presence on the water. Kit will be comprised of laser cut birch ply, oak & walnut with brass & 3DP parts. Not sure about servos but geared motor & belt drive are included along with rudder setup. Am lobbying for additional flanking rudders so that part of the design is not yet settled. And, yes, the picnic table will be included, as well.

Consider this my homeage to the late "Towboat Joe" Brown who shared his basic plan years earlier on his website. I have always wanted to build Major & am seriously looking forward to getting my hands on this new kit.

Can't wait to see this kit released! If it's a reasonable price I will certainly be one of the first to order...

Can you tell us what the length and beam of the model are Hermill?

Given what he charges for his other models, I would say his price will be very reasonable.

It has been a while since my last post but the 1/18 scale Major prototype build is finally coming to a close. Here some of the few photos I received today as the after the railing was added. Final photos & details should be available over the weekend.

Kits are securely packed with foam protection in a double carton to ensure they can arrive intact even by the postal monkeys.
