Flags...
« on: June 17, 2005, 10:14:54 AM »
I had a go at making a flag that looks 'realistic' on a model, here's the first attempt; http://www.paddleducks.co.uk/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=581
it's made from a piece of surgical rubber glove and coloured with permanent markers. This one is on a PBM kit (about 1/60 scale?) and is an inch-and-a-half long, a 1/32 version for freshwater should look better still. I don't know how long it will last as rubber does tend to become hard and brittle over time, will probably need to be replaced often!

Hi Mick - have a re look at the 240 second video snap of PS Waverley coming through some pretty rough sea - in the last 100 seconds, she turns & has a following sea & naturally her standard [stern flag] is shown blown FWD - rewatch this as it looks not life like - so imagine how difficult it is to get a model flag to look life like when it is flowing in the breeze - just watch my eyes trying to follow it - Derek  :  :
