At last! after several years of neglect at hartlepool docks, The Hartlepool Council have allocated FOUR MILLION POUNDS for the restoration of PS Wingfield Castle. This is one of two paddle ferries built at Hartlepool for the Humber ferry crossing from Hull. Her sister ship Tattershall Castle is moored on the Thames as a floating hospitality centre and is barely recognisable as she has been completely gutted. Wingfield Castle is substantiall intact with her original boiler and engines which up to a few years ago could be turned over with a large electric motor at the flick of a switch. Lets hope that work will start soon!. Regards, Walter.
