PS Oscar W centenary [Goolwa, South Australia]
« on: February 09, 2008, 09:33:38 PM »
After the cancellation of the 2007 'Ruby' & 'Canally' centenary voyage, there was hope among river people that the 2008 'Oscar W' Goolwa - Echuca centenary voyage would provide a replacement opportunity for a grand fleet voyage.
First, because of uncertainty about water levels, that voyage was cut back to Mildura.
Now, because of lock maintenance in SA (several locks out of action for up to 3 months), the whole voyage has been cancelled.
There will be one celebration in Goolwa (where the boat is maintained).
There will be another in Echuca (where it was built).

Oscar W has been across the lake many times since 2008, and I have mentioned many of the voyages in other threads.
In Feb.14 (Sat.15 & Sun.16?), there was a large truck, tractor & machinery rally at Milang.
Oscar journeyed from Goolwa to Milang, and was on display for the weekend.  The departure back to Goolwa was on Monday, so I guess that the forward move was on Friday.
I don't know if it was running short cruises: passengers are not to be carried when crossing the lake.

My trucking contact didn't photograph Oscar, but there is a model paddlesteamer in one of his photos.

As with most tourist operations, routine is enhanced with occasional special operation, bringing in a wider audience (and repeat visitation).  PS Waverley is a great example of a varied special program.  PS Oscar W and PS Marion both have frequent special events.

I missed the Clayton Bay event (still in Europe).  I have done the reach aboard PS Industry, and twice in my boat.

The next Fleurieu Heritage Experience will be running on 27.12.15.
This package combines a 1 h cruise on board PS Oscar W, return Cockle Train journey to Victor Harbor and return horse-drawn tram tour to Granite Island.
Bookings 1300 466 592. Adult $58, concession $49.50, child (4-15) $ 30.

The river is gearing up for two major events in 2016: the 150th anniversary of Meningie (Lake Albert), and the 150th anniversary of PS Adelaide.

Hi Roderick,
Has there been any indication of what and when they'll be doing something for the Adelaide 150th?
I suppose it will be in July if they do something.

The photo is different; the text is rather touristy.
