For those of you interested in Paddle steamers of the Great Lakes and
particularly those of Toronto and Lake Ontario, the following web
site is a MUST! Some of you may already be familiar with this site
which is called "Maritime History of the Great Lakes". However, they
have recently added a splendid online archive which I ran across by
accident yesterday and have spent hours looking through the hundreds
of images there. The database is called "Great Lakes Images" and is
one of the best archives I have seen. I was particularly fascinated
by the first horse driven sidewheeler ferries of Toronto Harbour and
some the smaller steam powered ones which
predated "Trillium", "Primrose" and "Mayflower". This web site
contains some great ideas for those brave enough to tackle some
rather complex model projects. There are also hours of fascinating
reading about the development of steamboating in Lake Ontario.
Visit the Home page at:

http://www.hhpl.on.ca/GreatLakes/GLImages/search.aspIf you type in the word "steamboat" you will come up will almost 500
images.
