Paddlewheel Kits
« on: January 18, 2018, 10:28:20 PM »
As a newby PD, I have the impression that paddlewheel kits, for those who don't want to/aren't skilled enough to scratch build (both those categories apply to me), are few and far between.

Good news! Cayton Vintage Models supply good-looking kits, out of 2mm perspex, 8 floats, non-feathering. When I first looked, they offered two sizes, 120mm and 96mm diameter - both much too big for me (I'm in 1:76 scale). I emailed John Anthony with my requirements, and just wondered whether he could do me a kit pair. I exaggerate not - within 48 hours he had calibrated his CDC machine, made me a pair, and advertised the new size on the website. Amazing! Needless to say, I've ordered.

A more discerning and experienced eye might want to comment further? I, for one, am extremely pleased. By the way, the email address -
                           john@johnanthonyguitars.com

is not a mistake! Any guitar-playing PDs may be interested in the other side of the business.

Anyone with a 3D printer could do them also after watching rendrag (my son) on his facebook page as he printed new Differentials  for his 4wd RC car next time I need wheels I'll ask if he has free time knowing he rarely has free time.

Thanks for the John Anthony tip...I hadn't come across him before.

Another of my active interests are guitars/ukuleles and the making of them. I have made about 5 ukuleles in 2017 and have just bought myself a chinese banjolele to learn Formby style,,,fantastic quality/value instrument.

Brilliant little site, thanks for the info. This site also has Cessna Bird Dog plans, electric powered, another of the family interests. Well worth a visit.

Hmm, yes if you are guided by price you have found what you are looking for ... if your guided by function and scale then keep looking ...
Just my opinion lol...

We have two 3d printers and a Shapeways shop ...

We don't do 3d printed wheels ...

We have been down all the roads you care to walk ...

Kim

Thingiverse.com  thing2957170   Sternwheel by Oleg Boltonov

This is a 3d stl model of paddlewheel components.
There are several companies that will print for you if you do not have your own 3D printer.
