Seeking advise to power 5 feet sidewheeled paddler
(1/1)
olynes:
Hello!
I feel very lucky to have found this site.
I am going to scratch build a RC-controlled, live steam scale model of an old Norwegian side wheeled steamboat: http://www.skibladner.no
I want it to be at least 5 feet long. The paddle wheels need to be fixed to the crank-shaft on the engine.
Have anyone made anything similar?
And if so, what kind of steam engine/plant can I use that is strong enough (and not to heavy) to run the boat when having form 0 to 40 rpm?
I would like to be able to control speed, forward/backward and have a steam whistle. I have seen the Cheddar ABC control.
Can this be connected to an electric boiler feed pump?
Most grateful for any answer!! :D

:D I think I can help you. You will have to become a member of the group but that is not too painful. There are for plans for a stern wheeler and a side wheeler steam engine suitable for large models.

Hi Sandy,
A most interesting link, I must say.
That steam engin for the side wheeled paddler is exactly wat I need.
I just dont know if I can make it myself.
If someone have one laying idle in a drawer, please let me know.
Regards olynes

I have traded with this person in the past and I will trade again.
This is an auction that closes in NZ on Thursday.
The price is in NZ Dollars - less than US dollars...
Good luck
Sandy

Olyes - I penned a response to this last Saturday & submitted it but it must have gone to the land of lost electrons
Fromemory the response was "I am familar with the Cheddar site & their model engines & their ABC system is truely state of the art, however boiler feed pumps must be capable of exceeding the presure in the boiler - most BFP's whether in real life or model are piston pumps & gear driven off the main engine crank shaft so everything is relative ie., steam consumed is relative to the make up water provided
Eddie - the way messages self attach to the previous posting is great, however could you consider seeing the latest posting first in the forum section - I realise when we respond to the original posting we see a sorting reversal etc? - this would save the time scrolling down etc - so before I submit this I will Preview it & then hit the Submit icon & see what happens - Derek
