Why I build but no longer sail
« on: October 19, 2016, 02:24:53 PM »
I chose Ballarat to live because of Lake Wendouree not knowing it was empty at the time, it was full when we arrived however the Ballarat council did nothing about the water weed problem whilst it was empty.
I changed from propeller to paddle drive hoping paddles wouldn't clog up like propellers Mowing the ex Olympic rowing course makes a mess of the down wind bank of the lake of the lake where I launch in case of malfunction it can float back.

This pic in today's paper shows the enormity of the weed problem for 90% of the lake circumference.
I wouldn't  risk launching a model that took 2 years to build into this mess.

And all the smaller ponds nearby are in worse condition.

An utter disgrace as Lake Wendouree is a Ballarat Icon.

The reed bird sanctuary mid lake has grown about 1/3 in size in the year or so since I was there last sad really that the only lake weed that gets mowed is on the rich folks rowing course.

They need a paddle vacuum boat to do circuits around the downwind side of  lake once a month the week after the paddle mower.

yes, Damian, the water weed problem is also hight in summertime at our german lakes, ponds and calm rivers. Now in winter water weed is completely vanished, temperatur in the Swabian Alb is today about 0 degrees. I hope, I can make a test run with my "Courier" next week - if temperatur don`t fall down.

best regards by Thomas
