The development of a new class of model sailinng yachts

Brett McCormack, owner of Highland Yachts, 19 Edinburgh St.,, Green Island, Dunedin, New Zealand: http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~bsmack/ has developed a new class of "Footy" model yachts. At only 12 inches long the "Footy" is the world's smallest class of radio controlled model yacht. They perform well for their size and are able to sail under most wind conditions.
"Footy" class yachts are ideal for exhibitions, school groups and the like. They can be raced or sailed on any small body of water, are cheap to build and as much, or more, fun to sail than the bigger classes of radio yacht. Control is restricted to two standard servos and 4 AA batteries, no micro servos or small battery packs— just standard radio available anywhere.
Model Yachting of Great Britain at; http://www.mya-uk.org.uk/ has a Footy Design Competition - update: The MYA Technical Secretary put together a simple diagram explaining the basic dimensions and rules for the design of a Footy. Aimed squarely at attracting new young budding designers and builders. Several schools have undertaken this project - ideal for plastic or wood building, as well as vacuum forming for the more advanced school project.

Hi Frank,
We had one "Footy" exibited at the Hobby Show here in November, Two showed up at the Dundas Show. One of our chaps has arranged to have the basic hull lazar cut in lite ply for $25. My kit will be in my stocking for Xmass, my Son wants one for his Birthday (Feb.) and my Daughter says she wants one for her birthday (April), plus I have heard that we will soon have 20 registered to make it an official class here.
Regards,
Gerald
Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors--and miss. Lazarus Long

my Scottish grandfather used to tell me to keep my hands in my pockets.  I almost rushed to buy the plans so I can make a hull mold, but then I realized that I'm 3 projects deep already.   I will be adding a sailing vessel to my fleet sooner or later though.
